Who I Am and Why I Love Cruising

It’s always hard to know how to start things like this, so I guess I’ll begin with thanks for reading my blog and it’s nice to meet you! My name is Pierce Harmon, and I have been cruising for basically my entire life. By day, I work in marketing. By night, I still work in marketing so I can make enough money to get back on a cruise ship as fast as possible. I was 6 months old when I set sail for the first time, and 25 years and 25+ cruises later I still get excited every time I board a ship. I have been very blessed to have a family who loves to travel and was kind enough to take 12 year old me with them, and now I want to take what I have learned and share it with everyone else who is interested in vacationing on the high seas but is worried they don’t have enough information to pull the trigger.
My Cruise Journey
I have cruised at almost every age (except the older ones, I am still working on those…), so I know what it’s like to walk into the kids club on night 1 knowing nobody and walking out a few hours later with new friends I can’t wait to see tomorrow. I know what it’s like to go dancing at the teen club for the first time and feel awkward as all teenagers do. I know what it’s like being too old for the youth activities but too young for the 21+ and finding other ways to have a blast no matter what cruise line, cruise ship, and ports of call you are sailing to. Basically, I can help you make sure your kids have the best time possible on a cruise so they end up begging you to go on another one! I also know what it’s like to be the adult planning (and sadly paying) for all the fun, and I can help you pick and plan the right shore excursions, cruise packages, and even help you have a little fun yourself! I’ve sailed over 25 times on cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Disney, Carnival, and Norwegian to ports in Mexico, Alaska, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Central America. Some cruises were just my mom and I, and others were with groups of up to 20 people. No matter the cruise line or the people I was with I had a blast. Trust me when I say that cruising is not just for the retired members of our family we love so much (though they’ll love it too), but something that anyone of any age, ability, or attitude can love!
Why I Love Cruising
If you’ve never been on a cruise, I get it—it might sound daunting or even boring. You might hear people make fun of wanting to spend your time “on a boat with nothing to do” so you can “spend 8 hours in Cabo San Lucas,” but trust me—there’s so much more to cruising than meets the eye. Every morning on the ship starts with waking up in pitch darkness after the best sleep of your life (sleeping in an interior cabin is what I imagine the womb must have been like). Then, you throw on a swimsuit, grab a book and some sunglasses, and go to the Lido deck where buffets, pools, waterslides, ping pong, sports courts, and tons of other fun activities await. You can relax, enjoy poolside movies, dance at a deck party, and overall enjoy a fun day in the sun while eating as much free soft-serve ice cream as possible. After your eventful morning, you go back to the room to get ready for a night of eating delicious (and unlimited) food in the beautiful main dining room where you can actually talk to your family since there is no cell service to distract you, go to the main theater to watch the night’s show, and listen to live music or head to the casino. Then you get back into your warm bed to get some beauty sleep before your snorkeling excursion in Mexico the next morning.
And that’s just scratching the surface—does that sound like ‘nothing to do’ to you? If it does, you have a lot more energy than I do and I’m in my 20’s. There is always something to do on a cruise ship, so you can do as much (or little) as you want without having to worry about things like cleaning your room, making your bed, or doing any dishes.
Why I started this blog
With so many incredible experiences, it’s no wonder I’m hooked. And that’s why I started this blog. I’m not a travel agent and I am not trying to win your business. I am just a guy who was blessed to see the world from the lido deck and wants to share my experience with others so they can do the same! Since I’m going to keep cruising anyway, why not share my experiences along the way?. If anything I share helps you make your next vacation more enjoyable, I ask that you take a look at the many affiliate links on my website that take you directly to the source of whatever product or cruise ship I talk about. It’s the exact same price and product you would get otherwise, but I get a commission when the company knows you got to them through my website. If you’re ready to plan your next adventure, check out my posts for tips, tricks, and stories to help you set sail with confidence and excitement!
