Not All Cruises are the Same! How to Choose the Right Cruise Line

Whenever I mention an upcoming cruise, I always hear one of three reactions.

🚢 I’ve never been on a cruise before and I’m worried I would get bored or seasick if I was stuck on a boat for a whole week

⚓ Oh my family loves cruising, we always go on _____ cruise line

🚫 We took a cruise once and hated it, never again!

My answer to the first response is always the same, I’d pay for your cruise if you can honestly tell me that there was “nothing to do on the ship” and spent the entire week bored out of your mind. There is always something going on, food to be eaten, and relaxation to be had no matter what cruise line you’re on, and when it comes to seasickness there are tons of options to help whether you get severely motion sick or just need a little boost once in a while!

Two cruise ships docked side by side

When it comes to the other two, I ask 'Have you ever tried any other cruise lines?' Even if you had an amazing cruise experience with one cruise line, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a differently amazing experience on another. And, if you didn’t love your first cruise, who is to say you’ll never enjoy another?

That’s when I remind them—choosing a cruise line is a lot like choosing where to eat.

Meme about deciding where to eat dinner

Pretend you’ve never eaten at a restaurant before and the first place you decide to try is an Italian restaurant. Pretty quickly you learn that you don’t love breadsticks, the pasta is too heavy and makes your stomach hurt, and at the end of the dinner you’re blown away by how expensive a meal you hated ended up being. Does that mean you should swear off restaurants for the rest of your life? How sad would it be to never eat at the world's best Mexican Restaurants, Steakhouses, Sushi, and burger joints just because you didn’t love the first time you had Italian food?

Or, if you LOVED that Italian dinner the first time you ate it, would you restrict yourself to only eating fettuccine alfredo for the rest of your life? You can love Italian, but who’s to say you won’t like Thai food as much or even more? My point is, going on a cruise is like going to a restaurant. Each cruise line is its own cuisine, and each ship is a different restaurant serving their own spin of the dishes you love. The hard part is that cruises are a little more expensive to sample than trying all of the different sandwich shops around town until you find your favorite. That’s why I’ve compiled my personal reviews of every cruise line I’ve been on (with more to come). From price and accommodations to food, entertainment, and service, I’ve got all the details you need to choose your next cruise with confidence. Whether you're a first-time cruiser or a loyal platinum member thinking of switching things up, my cruise line reviews will help you find the perfect fit.
